Despite constant changes in the landscape of college football, Iowa Western keeps winning big. Scott Strohmeier enters his 18th season as head coach after leading the Reivers to their fourth national junior college title last year. The latest change is the NCAA’s “5 to play 5” rule. Strohmeier says the added year if eligibility may mean fewer opportunities to move on for his players but it also may increase the pool of high school players available.
Strohmeier says it started with Covid, was followed by the transfer portal and N-I-L. They are constantly being forced to adjust.
Strohmeier started the program at Iowa Western back in 2009 and says it has been a perfect fit for him.
The losses from last season’s team were massive. Strohmeier says that and several preseason injuries has home concerned heading into Saturday’s opener at home against Highland of Kansas.
This will be the second game for Highland, which opened with a 34-32 loss at the College of DuPage in Illinois.
