MVC commissioner Jeff Jackson on changes to conference basketball tournaments

The Missouri Valley Conference announced changes to the conference post season basketball tournaments. Beginning next season the top two seeds will receive double byes into the semifinal round. Earlier this year, Valley champion Belmont finished with a 26-5 record before losing to ninth seeded Drake in the quarterfinal round at Arch Madness. The loss knocked the Bruins out of the NCAA Tournament. MVC commissioner Jeff Jackson.

Jackson feels the new format will help in the Valley’s quest to get multiple bids into the NCAA Tournament. The last Valley team to get an at-large bid was Drake in 2021.

Jackson says the new format will be a benefit when it comes to NCAA selections.

The MVC is also moving the women’s tournament to St Louis and both tournaments will be in the Enterprise Center the same week.
