IOWA CITY, Iowa – University of Iowa gymnastics head coach Jen Llewellyn has been named Women’s Collegiate Gymnastics Association (WCGA) North Central Region Head Coach of the Year, the organization announced Wednesday.
Llewellyn is the second coach in program history to earn the honor and the first since 2016.
In her second season leading the Hawkeyes, Llewellyn guided the team to a 14-6 overall record and a 6-3 mark in Big Ten competition. The GymHawks finished fourth during the regular season and fifth at the Big Ten Championships. Iowa closed the season ranked No. 17 nationally and posted a 9-0 home record, the first undefeated home season since 2022.
The GymHawks made their 26th consecutive appearance at NCAA Regionals.
The Hawkeyes set a program record with a 197.225 team score against Nebraska on Feb. 7 and recorded three of the top 18 scores in school history during the season. Iowa also posted five of the top 10 uneven bars scores in program history, breaking the school record in the event twice times. The Hawkeyes most recently updated the school record on April 3 at NCAA Regionals with a 49.575. The team added a 49.475 on floor against Penn State on Feb. 21, tying for the sixth-best score in school history.
Sophomore Aurélie Tran earned WCGA regular season second-team All-America honors on bars and in the all-around. Tran won the NCAA Corvallis Regional bars title with a program-record 10.0 and shared the Big Ten uneven bars title with a 9.950.
Llewellyn coached multiple Hawkeyes to conference awards. Tran earned first-team All-Big Ten honors, while fifth-year JerQuavia Henderson and freshman Sophie Schriever were named to the second team. Schriever also earned Big Ten All-Freshman Team honors.
Tran will compete individually on uneven bars at the NCAA Championships on April 16, becoming the first Hawkeye to qualify for the national championships since 2022.
