John Deere Classic tournament director on future changes to PGA Tour schedule

The director of the John Deere Classic says he is focused on next week’s tournament and not how scheduling changes could effect the future of the tournament in the Quad Cities. The PGA Tour announced a two tier scheduling format beginning in 2028 that will include elite players in the Championship Series. The Challenger Series will feature players trying to work their way into the top tier. Andrew Lehman is tournament director of the John Deere Classic.

The new schedule would essentially create two different tours.

The PGA says the purse for Championship Series tournaments will start at 20-million dollars while the purse for a Challenger Series event will start at four million. The purse for next week’s John Deere Classic will be 8.8 million dollars. Lehman says construction continues at the TPC at Deere Run and he expects the course to be “show ready” by Monday morning.

The John Deere Classic is July second through the fifth.
