(St. Paul, MN) — Former Gopher and Wild defenseman Stu Bickel has been named the new head coach for the Iowa Wild. Bickel spent the last five seasons as an assistant coach in the American Hockey League including four years with Coachella Valley. He now takes over the Wild’s primary affiliate, replacing Greg Cronin who left after last season for an assistant coaching position with the St. Louis Blues.
Bickel played 10 years of professional hockey including time with both Minnesota and Iowa during the 2014-15 season. This week, the young names in the organization are in St. Paul for some off ice training and instruction.
Bickel was able to meet a number of those faces, some of which will be with him in Iowa this year or in coming seasons.
