Iowa to open football season nationally ranked

The Iowa football team will enter the season nationally ranked despite massive losses from last season. The Hawkeyes are ranked 22nd in the AP preseason poll after losing 16 starters off a team that finished 9-4. They are also 22nd in the coaches poll.

That’s senior tight end Addison Ostrenga (oh-strain-guh). Redshirt freshman defensive end Iose (yoh-say) Epenesa (ep-uh-NESS-uh) will have a larger role for a defensive line that was nearly wiped out by graduation.

Epenesa says they are not focused on the preseason polls.

Redshirt junior defensive back Zach Lutmer is one of only three starters returning on defense.

The Hawkeyes have posted eight wins or more niner times in last four seasons and junior running back Kamari (kuh-mar-ee) Moulton says the program has garnered national respect.

It is an unusual amount of preseason respect for a program that is normally underrated. Junior receiver Reece Vander Zee.
