Jaylen Raynor says transferring to Iowa State gives him a chance to compete at the highest level. After three years at Arkansas State, Raynor signed on with new Cyclone coach Jimmy Rogers and is the favorite to replace Rocco Becht as ISU quarterback.
Raynor felt Iowa State was the nest step on a path he hopes leads to the NFL.
Raynor was the starting quarterback for Arkansas State two seasons ago in a 52-7 loss in Ames and last year the Cyclones beat the Red Wolves 24-16 in Jonesboro.
Raynor says one of the things that made ISU attractive is the fanbase.
Helping Raynor’s transition, Cyclone quarterback coach Keith Heckendorf was his offensive coordinator at Arkansas State.
Heckendorf says Raynor took over the starting job at Arkansas State the third game of his freshman year.
Heckendorf believes Raynor can have success in the Big 12.
The Cyclones close spring drills on Saturday with an open practice.
