Iowa sophomore linebacker Preston Ries is looking to carve out a larger role next season. The native of Monticello appeared in 13 games last season and was a standout on special teams for a Hawkeye squad that finished 9-4. Ries is one of several young players looking to fill holes on a defense that was hit hard by graduation.
Ries says despite several key losses on defense the coaches talk about upholding a standard on defense.
Ries was a quarterback in high school and says the size and speed of college football required an adjustment.
The Hawkeyes close spring drills with an open practice on April 25th.
