Iowa hosts Illinois in B1G baseball series beginning Friday night

Two teams looking to improve their postseason chances collide Friday night as Iowa opens a Big Ten baseball series at home against Illinois. The Hawkeyes are tied with Ohio State for seventh in the league race at 10-11, while the Illini are part of a three way tied for ninth at 9-12. The top 12 teams will make the Big Ten Tournament.

That’s Iowa coach Rick Heller, who says the Illini are better than their record.

Heller says it is a big series for the Hawkeyes who have a tough stretch to close the regular season.

The Hawkeyes have bounce back from a rough stretch. They were 5-10 in the league race after getting swept by UCLA and USC.

The series runs through Sunday.
