Iowa hopes to fix anemic run game

Iowa’s struggling run game needs to get going in a hurry as the 20th ranked Hawkeyes get set for Friday night’s game at Washington. In two Big Ten games, the Hawkeyes are averaging less than 49 yards on the ground per game and less than two and-a-half yards per carry. Junior left guard Leighton(lay-tin) Jones says opponents are loading up against the run.

There have also been some costly false start penalties by the offensive line the past couple of weeks.

Junior right guard Kade Pieper (peeper) is confident the run game will get going.

The return of running back L.J. Phillips could be a boost. He saw hisa first action against Ohio State after suffering an ankle injury early in the season opener against Northern Illinois.

Phillips is happy to be back after missing three games.
