Iowa football prepares to open summer drills

Iowa football coach Kirk Ferentz admits the Hawkeyes have a lot of question marks as they get ready to start summer workouts. Sixteen starters are gone from last season’s team that finished 9-4 and just three starters return on defense. The defensive line was wiped out by graduation and a lot of new players will see the field.

Ferentz says there are a lot of position battles right now.

ONe position group that has depth and experience is tight end. DJ Vonnahme (noh-nah-me) returns after a breakout freshman season that saw his lead the team with 29 receptions. Senior Addison Ostrenga (oh-strain-guh) returns after suffering a season ending achillies injury in week two.

The Hawkeyes open the season at home on September fifth against Northern Illinois.
