Former Iowa State football coach Jim Walden has died at the age of 88. Todd Kimm reports.
(as said) – Walden took over as the Cyclones head coach in 1987 after the program had faced scholarship reductions following N-C-A-A infractions by the previous coach. The team’s best season under Walden was his third one, in 1989, when Iowa State finished 6-and-5 overall. The Cyclones 4-and-3 Big Eight record was their best in conference play in nearly two decades. Prior to his eight-year stint at Iowa State, Walden was the head coach at Washington State. After retirement from coaching, Walden was a color commentator for the Iowa Barnstormers, then worked on the game day broadcast for Washington State’s football team.
