IOWA CITY, Iowa – University of Iowa men’s basketball letterwinner Lynn Rowat passed away May 29. He was 76.
Rowat was a member of the 1969-70 team that won a Big Ten regular season title, finishing 14-0 in league play and 20-5 overall. The Hawkeyes won 17 of their final 18 games and finished as the highest scoring team in Big Ten history, averaging 102.9 points per game.
The team eclipsed the century mark in 12 games and four players averaged more than 17 points per contest.
Rowat appeared in 41 games during his Hawkeye career, where he scored 177 points. During his junior season, the forward/guard averaged 6.2 points over 21 games.
After graduation, Rowat resided in Iowa City, where he began a career at First National Bank. He is a past president of the University of Iowa National Letterman’s Club.
The Rowat family will hold a Celebration of Life at Hancher’s Stanley Cafe on the University of Iowa campus on Aug. 11 from 4:30-7 p.m. (CT).
