Exira-EHK/Audubon’s is over following a 5-0 to Edgewood-Colesburg on Wednesday afternoon. The Vikings’ Rachel Egelseder put together an eight strikeout, 2 hit shutout to end the season for the #1 team in Class 1A. It was a valiant effort by the Spartans/Wheelers who needed two wins on tuesday to keep their season alive. Riley Miller pitched all four games, going 2-2 in the state tournament. Exira-EHK Audubon finished their 2026 season with a record of 25-6.
Wednesday was a strong pitcher’s dual for the first five innings, with the only run being in favor of the Vikings on an rbi single from Rachel Egelseder. Riley Miller and Egelseder were going back and forth in strikeouts through 5 innings, Miller with 7 and Egelseder with 6. Unfortunately for Exira-EHK/Audubon, they still trailed by 1 and had only put one hit on the board through five innings. Things ultimately did not get much better for the Wheelers after the fifth inning.
The 6th inning unraveled quickly with three of the first four batters reaching with just one away. McKenna Hoefer drove in a run with a single, and Addi Schmelzer drove in two runners with a double to make it 4-0. Chloe Everett followed that double immediately with a single to drive in Schmelzer to make it 5-0. Exira-EHK Audubon collected just one hit over the remaining two innings and got shut out to end their season. Head Coach Tom Petersen spoke after the game about this game and their season as a whole.

Exira-EHK/Audubon’s season came to a close on Wednesday, but it was a phenomenal season. They finished first in the Western Iowa Conference, and finished the regular season ranked as the #1 team in Class 1A.
