Etzel Wins 67th Tournament of Champions

Parker Etzel won the Open Championship at the 67th Tournament of Champions at the Atlantic Golf and Country Club.

Etzel, a senior-to-be on the University of South Dakota golf team, shot a final round two under par 67 on Sunday to hold off several other challengers. Etzel finished the weekend with a score of eight under par 199.

After capturing the title in his first appearance at the tournament, Eztel re-capped his final round.

Four players finished tied for second, just two strokes back, and the lead changed hands a few times during Sunday’s play.

Ross Martens of Jefferson, Alec Fuhs of Waukee, Jake Olsen of Atlantic and defending champion Zach Christianson of Atlantic all finished two strokes back with total of six under par 201.

Etzel, a native of Eau Claire, Wisconsin hopes to be back to defend his title next year.

Bret Taylor of Booneville won the Senior Division title with a final round of 69 to finish his three rounds at even par 207. Steven Montgomery of Des Moines, Chris Nelson of Atlantic and Darby McLaren of Atlantic all finished tied for second, eight strokes back.

The Super Senior Champion is Rick Carter of Creston, who shot a 68 on the final day posting a three round total of five over par 212 to beat Rick Thompson of Fairfield by one stroke.
