In one of the longest games in state softball tournament history, the defending 1A champions remained alive in the winners bracket Monday as 2-seed Clarksville rallied for a 12-11, 15-inning win over North Butler. The Indians had to score four in the bottom of the seventh to force extras. After each team scored two in the eighth, five scoreless innings followed before both teams broke through with one run in the 14th. In the 15th, North Butler scored on consecutive pitches on an RBI double by Zoey Thompson, then on a sac bunt by Charlotte Shook. Clarksville responded with a solo home run by Sydney Lovrien, then Eve Jordan doubled with the bases loaded for the walk-off win. Indians Coach Katie Burman.
North Butler Coach Austin Guerrero says the team gave up some chances, including two costly errors that could have ended the game had the plays been made cleanly.
Both teams will return to action Tuesday as Clarksville plays St. Edmond in the winner’s bracket and North Butler plays Remsen St. Mary’s in a first round elimination game.
