The CAM Cougars won a hard-fought battle over the Riverside Bulldogs to advance in the Class 1 A Substate 8 tournament. In the opening the innings, the Bulldogs looked like the crisper team, jumping out to a 2-0 lead they took advantage of free passes and didn’t give many. However, in the third and fourth innings, the Cougars found their offense. Tyler Ticknor and Zach Kauffman each hit two doubles with Kauffman driving in four. Wearing down the Bulldog pitcher, CAM scored seven runs across the two innings which turned out to be enough. Although the Bulldogs threatened numerous times throughout the remainder of the ballgame, Carson McKee and then Colin Bower, found ways to get out of the jams to hold on as the Cougars avoided the upset.
Head coach Mick Long was proud of the way his fought for the win despite struggling coming into the postseason.
Overall, he was happy with pitchers but gave credit to riverside for the compete level.
Kauffman despite his youth continued to be a big part of CAM’s success.
Heading into round two, Long wants to see his team improve
CAM will host AHSTW in the second round on Tuesday. First Pitch is scheduled for 7 pm.
