The Wheelers rolled past the Knights on Friday night 44-7 to improve to 5-0. The #1 team in the 8-man circuit again proved why they are top ranked with another blowout victory. In terms of offensive output, this was the lowest scoring total of the season for Audubon but it did not stop them from another big victory.
The first quarter was all Audubon, beginning with a touchdown run by Karter Obermeier. It would be his only score on the night. Obermeier finished the night with 3 carries for 3 yards. The game overall was dominated by QB Aiden Kjergaard who has been one of the top rushing quarterbacks in 8-man this season. He had two rushing touchdowns in the 1st quarter and three in the second. One came after a blocked punt in the 1st that put the Wheelers on the half yard line. Kjergaard also had the longest run between both teams with a 69-yard score. He finished his night with 20 carries for 186 yards and 5 touchdowns. Mason Kasperbauer also tacked on 68 yards on the night.
Fremont-Mills only score came in the 2nd quarter on a beautiful 65-yard rushing touchdown by Paxton Campbell. After that touchdown the rain really began to fall. No one scored in the second half as it was very difficult to move the ball once the field turned to mud. Many player lost their footing in the second half. The Wheelers took that 44-7 halftime lead all the way to the end and moved to 5-0. Fremont-Mills dropped to 1-4.
Audubon heads to Glidden-Ralston next week to take on the Wildcats. Fremont-Mills hosts Sidney for their Homecoming game next week.
