Atlantic Softball beats Unity Christian to Advance to Regional Final

For the first time since 2023, the Atlantic Trojans are back in the regional final. After taking care of Cherokee-Washington last Thursday, the Trojans moved another step closer to the state tournament with a 9-2 win over the Unity Christian Knights Saturday night. Atlantic came ready to swing the bat. Unlike Thursday, the Trojans scored early and then scored often. The Trojans scored in all but one inning and scored two runs four of the six times the came to the plate. Despite a few unnoteworthy mistakes in the field, the defense did what it needed to do, spearheaded by a gem from Peyton McLaren. Tossing a complete game, she shut down the Knights after giving up a pair of early runs. Naturally, the Trojans will have to be better on Tuesday, but Saturday was another critical and encouraging step on the road to the state tournament.

Shortstop Zoe Kirchoff conveyed her team’s excitement to be back in the regional final

It was clear that Thursday’s game had an impact on how Saturday went

McLaren avoided giving up the big hit, which head coach Terry Hinzmann knows is important this time of year.

He also knows that his team will have to be even better when they take on Van Meter Tuesday.

First pitch for that game in Van Meter will be at 7 pm. You can catch all the action on KJAN an KJANTV (Audio only) with coverage beginning at 6:50 pm.
