Arizona State senior guard Gabby Elliott says defense has been the key to the turnaround of the program. After four straight losing seasons the Sun Devils take a 24-10 record against Virginia on Thursday night in the First Four of the NCAA Tournament in Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
Elliott leads Arizona State with 16 points per game but says defense sets the tone.

The winner advances to play Georgia in Saturday’s opening round. The other first round game on Saturday will feature seventh ranked Iowa against Fairleigh Dickinson.
