IOWA CITY, Iowa – Oklahoma State transfer Amari Whiting has signed with the University of Iowa women’s basketball program, it was announced Thursday by P. Sue Beckwith, MD, Head Coach Jan Jensen.
A senior-to-be, Whiting, will have one season remaining as a Hawkeye. She is the second transfer portal prospect to sign with Iowa for next season, joining junior guard Dani Carnegie.
Whiting started and played in all 34 games this past season with the Cowgirls and averaged 29.1 minutes, 9.6 points, 5.9 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game.
“We are so excited to add Amari to our program,” Jensen said. “She is a great young woman first and foremost. Amari has a great basketball IQ, and she is not only a great defender, but she loves defense. Amari is going to be a fantastic fit for her final season at Iowa.”
The 5-foot-10 guard averaged 10.3 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 3.8 assists per game in her sophomore season at BYU. During her freshman year, Whiting notched 10.6 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 3.7 assists per game. In all three seasons, she recorded a minimum of 1.5 steals per game.
