(Guthrie Center, IA) – A woman from Webster County was cited following a non-injury accident last week, near Bayard. The Guthrie County Sheriff’s Office reports 20-year-old Ava Brunner, of Dayton, was driving a 2018 Ford Escape on Highway 141 at Juniper Avenue, when her SUV rear-ended a 2019 Chevy Equinox driven by 62-year-old Brenda Clouse, of Guthrie Center. The accident happened at around 9:45-p.m.
Brunner told sheriff’s deputies she was very tired and fell asleep while driving, and that when she woke up, her vehicle rear-ended the Chevy. Clouse told authorities she was shaken-up by the impact, but was otherwise uninjured. She said she was traveling at 55-mph when her vehicle was struck.
Damage from the collision amounted to an estimated $5,000 altogether. Both vehicles were driven away from the scene. Deputies cited Brunner for Failure to Maintain Control. The Guthrie County Sheriff’s Office said also, a 2021 Hyundai Venue SUV driven by 18-year-old Ivy Stevens, of Ames, sustained an estimated $5,000 damage Sunday night, when a deer ran into the passenger side of the SUV, causing disabling damage.
The incident happened when the deer came out of the west ditch while the SUV was traveling north on Justice Road, near the intersection with 140th Street in Guthrie County. Stevens was not hurt during the accident.
