Update: Suspect who allegedly abducted a child from Shelby County was arrested in Omaha – child safely recovered

(Omaha, NE) – The Omaha Police Department reports an arrest was made Sunday in connection with an Endangered Person report out of Shelby County, Iowa.

The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office had issued an Endangered Person Advisory for missing 8-year-old Dane Coffman at around 5:30 a.m. The suspect, 51-year-old Garry McBreen, was reported to be traveling in a silver 2009 Dodge Journey with Iowa license plate QTC660. Shelby County issued a nationwide kidnapping warrant for McBreen.

Omaha Police responded to McDonald’s, 3606 S. 84th St., just after 11:30 a.m., after receiving information from the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office that McBreen and the child were in the Dodge Journey at this address. Multiple Omaha Police officers and Nebraska State Troopers responded.

The 8-year-old child was found safe. McBreen was taken into custody without incident and booked into Douglas County Corrections.
