(Council Bluffs, IA) – Online court records show trial for a Florida man suspected in the murder of a Nebraska man in Carter Lake, will take place July 21st in Pottawattamie County District Court. Arraignment for 36-year-old Joseph Edward Bertolino is scheduled to take place June 8th.
Bertolino, of Jacksonville, FL, faces a Class-A charge of Murder in the 1st Degree, in connection with the death last month at the Country Inn and Suites Hotel, of 63-year-old Kenneth Gauff, from Omaha.
Bertolino was arrested in Lincoln after he allegedly attacked a police officer at a fast-food restaurant. He was arrested for Attempted First Degree Assault on a Police Officer and was being held without bond in Lancaster County, Nebraska Jail.
While in custody, Bertolino made concerning statements to law enforcement referencing an event that occurred at the Country Inn and Suites Hotel in Carter Lake earlier that evening. Those statements resulted in a welfare check at the hotel, and the discovery of Gauff’s body.
