Three injured in a SE Iowa collision, Monday evening

(Muscatine County, IA) – A collision Monday evening in southeast Iowa resulted in both drivers and a passenger in one of the vehicles being transported to hospitals. The Iowa State Patrol says the collision happened northeast of Muscatine at around 6:40 p.,m.

According to the report, a car driven by 51-year-old Marciela Nunez, of Cicero, IL, was traveling north in the southbound lanes of U-S Highway 61, attempting to conduct a “U-Turn,” when the vehicle was struck on the front passenger side by a pickup truck, being driven by 52-year-old Mark A. Lawrence, of Fruitland (IA).

A passenger in the car driven by Nunez, 24-year-old Robert Mendozamonia, of Cicero, IL, was flown by helicopter from the scene to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Both drivers were transported by ambulance to Unity Point Hospital in Muscatine.
