“The Wall That Heals” to arrive in Manning in July

(Manning, IA) A traveling replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall will make its way to Manning in July. “The Wall That Heals,” is a three-quarter-size scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D-C.

A local committee is tasked with hosting the Wall and organizing volunteers. Co-chair of the committee, Jean Voege,  said the opportunity to do so was made available in late Summer, 2024. She said when she found out the Wall was coming to Nevada, Iowa, she began working with the Manning City Administrator to submit an application of interest to offer Manning as a host city. The application was submitted in August, 2025. They were notified in November that they had been selected as one of 31 communities across the country to be selected, out of 150 applicants.

Vogue, a Manning native, said there was never any doubt in her mind they could find the volunteers and funds necessary to host the traveling Wall.

The Wall, along with a mobile Education Center, will be on display in Manning from July 23rd through the 26th, at the Little League football field located south of the city park. The exhibit will be open 24 hours a day and free to the public. Voege says they are still looking for volunteers to help host the event.

And, while there is no charge to visit the Wall, it does cost money to host it and provide security. Sponsorship opportunities are available to help defray the cost.

They are also accepting donations in any amount, from the public. The Wall That Heals honors the more than 3 million Americans who served in the U.S. Armed Forces during the Vietnam War and bears the names of the 58,281 men and women who died in the conflict. It travels in a 53-foot trailer that opens into a mobile Education Center with exhibits built into its sides. The Wall will be escorted by a motorcade and parked at the Manning High School parking lot.

The replica wall stands 7 1/2- feet high at its tallest point. As with the original, full-size Wall, visitors to Manning may make name rubbings of individual service members listed on the wall. If you would like to volunteer for the event, or have questions, contact the Manning City Hall at 712-655-2176, or view information on the web at www.thewallthathealsmanning2026.com.
