(Red Oak, IA) – A man from Red Oak was cited Tuesday, following an investigation into hit-and-run injury accident in Red Oak. According to the Red Oak Police Department, 37-year-old Brandon Lee Gugenhan was cited for: Leaving the Scene of an Accident/Failure to Provide Aid or information; Failure to provide proof of liability (insurance)/accident related, and, Fraudulent use of registration.
Authorities say the accident happened at around 10:40-a.m. at N. Broadway and Cherry Streets, in Red Oak, as a van driven by 81-year-old Robert Sunquist, of Red Oak, was traveling south on Broadway Street and had stopped at the traffic signal with Cherry Street.
A pickup truck driven by Gugenhan was also southbound on N. Broadway, and struck the rear of the van. Sunquist was able to pull his vehicle into a parking lot, but Gugenhan fled the scene in the pickup, eastbound on Cherry Street. Sunquist was checked at the scene by Red Oak Rescue and released.
After the pickup was located, Gugenhan admitted to being involved in the accident, and to not stopping before fleeing the scene. Damage from the collision amounted to $5,000. As previously mentioned, Gugenhan was arrested later in the day, Tuesday, on a Theft charge associated with an incident at the Red Oak Hy-Vee.
