POTTAWATTAMIE COUNTY, Iowa — Pottawattamie County has been included in a Governor’s Proclamation of
Disaster Emergency for Southwest Iowa following impacts sustained during multiple rounds of severe storms
between June 5 and June 12, 2026. Pott. County Emergency Management Director Doug Reed says the proclamation authorizes the activation of the Iowa Disaster Case Advocacy Program and the Iowa Individual
Assistance Grant Program for eligible residents impacted by the storms.
Residents who experienced storm-related damage during this period are asked to report damages to Pottawattamie County Emergency Management. Damage reports help document local impacts, support the assistance process, and help identify unmet needs across the county. Residents can report damages, review program details, and apply for assistance through the Pottawattamie County Emergency Management website at:

The Iowa Disaster Case Advocacy Program connects disaster-impacted households with advocates who can help
them navigate the recovery process, assess unmet needs, develop a recovery plan, and connect with available
resources. The Iowa Individual Assistance Grant Program provides grants to eligible households for qualifying needs such as temporary housing, food assistance, personal property, and home repair. Supporting documentation is required, and residents should review eligibility requirements and application deadlines carefully.
Doug Reed says “Reporting damages is an important first step in the assistance process. Even if a household may not qualify for state assistance programs, those reports help us identify unmet needs in our communities. If a significant assistance need is identified, we can work with local organizations and partners to help mobilize additional support.”
Residents are encouraged to report damages as soon as possible and to include photos when available. Those with questions or needing assistance may contact Pottawattamie County Emergency Management during regular
business hours.
