Pedestrian struck & killed by a semi tractor-trailer & an SUV in eastern IA

(Iowa City, IA) – A person who was standing in the traveled portion of Interstate 80, early this (Sunday) morning in eastern Iowa, died after being struck by a semi tractor-trailer and an SUV. The Iowa State Patrol reports the accident happened at around 1:05-a.m. on eastbound I-80 on the north side of Iowa City, near mile marker 245.

The pedestrian – whose name was not immediately released – was struck by a 2026 Freightliner semi driven by 80-year-old Terry Evearitt, of Lancaster, PA, before they were hit by a 2025 Buick Enclave, driven by 25-year-old Macey Rogers, of Muscatine. The individual was transported to the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics (UIHC) by the Johnson County Medical Examiner’s Office.

The accident remained under investigation by the Iowa State Patrol, who was assisted at the scene by Iowa City Police and Fire Departments, along with the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office.
