(Iowa City, IA) – The Iowa State Patrol late Sunday afternoon identified the person who was struck by a semi tractor-trailer and an SUV early Sunday morning, on the north side of Iowa City. According to the report, 28-year-old Yanelli J. Camerena was standing in the traveled portion of Interstate 80 when she was struck. The accident happened at around 1:05-a.m. on eastbound I-80, near mile marker 245. The updated report did not say where the woman was from.
She was struck first by a 2026 Freightliner semi driven by 80-year-old Terry Evearitt, of Lancaster, PA, before being hit by a 2025 Buick Enclave, driven by 25-year-old Macey Rogers, of Muscatine. Camerena was transported to the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics (UIHC) by the Johnson County Medical Examiner’s Office.
The accident remains under investigation by the Iowa State Patrol, who was assisted at the scene by Iowa City Police and Fire Departments, along with the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office.
