Page County Attorney’s report, 5/4/26

(Clarinda, IA) – Page County Attorney, James L. Varley, reports the following activities in the Iowa District Court for Page County for the week of April 13, 2026. The Honorable Ashley West-Joons, District Court Judge of the Fourth Judicial District presided.

Charles Lee Appel, age 34, New Market, Iowa, appeared by counsel and pled guilty to Operating While Under the Influence-First Offense. The defendant was granted a deferred judgment and placed on probation for one year. As a condition of probation, the defendant is to obtain a substance abuse evaluation and complete the 12-hour Drinking Drivers course. Defendant was ordered to pay a civil penalty of $1,250, court costs, surcharges and court-appointed attorney fees.

Christopher Allen Priest, age 35, Shenandoah, Iowa, appeared pro se and pled guilty to Operating While Under the Influence- First Offense. The defendant was sentenced to 2 days in jail, with credit given for those 2 days for completing the Urban Dreams Program and fined $1,250. Defendant was ordered to pay court costs and surcharges.

All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
