Orange City is preparing for fall tulip planting while searching for replacements for some problem bulbs. Planting organizer John Buntsma (Bunts-muh) says the trouble traces back to the Netherlands.
Buntsma says if they were to plant early varieties of tulips that would likely leave only stems by the time Tulip Festival visitors arrive. Organizers are looking beyond their current supplier.
Some retained bulbs will be replanted, meaning there will be no free public bulb distribution this year. Volunteers will plant at Windmill Park October 23rd from 1 to 5 p-m, and October 24th beginning at 8:30 a-m Buntsma says the work brings a lasting reward.
No prior gardening or planting experience is required. Volunteers are asked to bring a garden spade and gloves if able. Rain dates are October 30th and the 31st.
