Onawa man faces federal charges in fairground grandstand fire

MONONA COUNTY, Iowa — A western Iowa man now faces federal charges after authorities say he started the fire that destroyed the grandstand at the Monona County Fairgrounds. KCCI reports David Bryan, of Onawa, had been charged in Monona County Court after he allegedly used a Molotov cocktail to burn down the grandstand in January. The grandstand was more than 100 years old.

Bryan was also charged for other suspicious fires set in Onawa around the same time. Court documents show prosecutors dropped their case on Wednesday. The three new federal charges were filed last week, and carry a maximum sentence of 40 years in prison.
