(Radio Iowa) – Members of the Otoe (OH-tuh) Missouria (mizz-ER-ee-UH) Tribe in Oklahoma visited Iowa Monday to visit portions of their ancestral homeland in Iowa. They are retrace their removal path through Kansas and Nebraskan, and Staff member Naomi (nay-OH-me) Roubeadoux (roo-BEE-doo) Quiroga (kee-ROH-guh) says it can be painful to see the land they lost.
During their stop in Decorah she says it’s important, especially for young members of the tribe.
Staff member Annette Arkeketa (ar-KIH-kee-tuh) says seeing these sights is like a homecoming.
The group visited sites near Council Bluffs and Okoboji. They will visit Effigy Mounds in eastern Iowa before entering Wisconsin.
