Nebraska Fugitive From Justice arrested Saturday in Council Bluffs

(Council Bluffs, IA) – Officials with the Council Bluffs Police Department, this (Sunday) afternoon reported that at around 7-a.m. Saturday, June 6th, the Council Bluffs Police Department assisted the U.S. Marshals Service in the apprehension of a wanted fugitive at an apartment complex located at 720 Mynster St., Apt. D., in Council Bluffs.

U.S. Marshals positively identified the suspect, 45-year-old George W. Hatfield, at the location. Hatfield was anted on an active arrest warrant for a homicide that occurred in Ralston, Nebraska, on June 4, 2026.

U.S. Marshals successfully ordered Hatfield out of the apartment, and Council Bluffs Police officers took him into custody without further incident. Hatfield was transported to the Pottawattamie County Corrections Center, where he was booked on the charge of Fugitive From Justice pending extradition back to Nebraska. Hatfield did not have any other local charges.

In a social media post Sunday, the Ralston, NE, Police Department said Hatfield faces a charge of 2nd Degree Murder, Use of a Firearm to Commit a Felony, and Possession of a Firearm by Prohibited Person, in connection with the death on June 4th, of 29-year-old Shane Krantz, who was found laying in a parking lot of a convenience store/gas station on S. 72nd Street, in Ralston. Their report stated Krantz had been in an altercation with a suspect (Hatfield), and was shot, He was transported to a hospital in Omaha, and died from his injuries.

Hatfield will face extradition hearings prior to be transferred back to Nebraska. The investigation is ongoing, and additional charges for other parties involved is still be investigated, according to Ralston, Police.

All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
