Nate Willems released the following statement tonight after he was declared the winner of the Iowa Attorney General race:
“Tonight, Iowans decided they want an attorney general who works for them, not the greedy corporations who have had a free pass for too long. I’m grateful to the people of Iowa for making their voice heard and trusting me with this responsibility. The attorney general’s office is the largest law firm in the state, and the only law firm responsible for representing every single Iowan. I’m going to work for you the same way I’ve worked for my clients my whole career.
“I want to especially thank my wife, Maggie, and our girls, my parents, and our staff and volunteers who worked tirelessly to make this victory possible. Tomorrow we start building an office that keeps our communities safe, holds corporations accountable when they break the law, and makes sure Iowans keep their hard-earned paychecks.”
Nate Willems was born and raised in Anamosa, where his father was a Main Street lawyer and his mother taught in the public schools. A partner at Rush & Nicholson in Cedar Rapids, he has represented tens of thousands of Iowa workers, securing $15 million for 11,000 hospital and clinic workers, recovering $1.7 million in back pay for custodians, and winning the largest collective bargaining wage increase in Iowa history for the Carter Lake police. He served two terms in the Iowa House of Representatives. He lives in Mount Vernon with his wife Maggie, a public school teacher and coach, and their three daughters. Willems takes office in January.
