(Calhoun County, Iowa) – The Iowa State Patrol has released the names three people, one of whom died, in a crash Sunday night north of Lake City, in northwest Iowa. The report says after a verbal altercation at a residence, a 2021 Polaris UTV driven by 21-year-old Roger William King, of Lytton, left the residence traveling westbound on 290th Street. The UTV was followed by a 2013 Chevy pickup truck driven by 21-year-old Jaxyn Stone Blum, of Rockwell City.
At around 9-p.m., the pickup struck the UTV on the rear driver’s side, causing the machine to roll several times before coming to rest upside down in a nearby field. Roger King, and his passenger, 19-year-old Kyle Robert Rath, of Audburn, were ejected from the UTV. The pickup continued westbound into the ditch before driving out.
Blum left the scene and was located by law enforcement several hours later. Kyle Rath died at the scene. Roger King was flown by helicopter to Methodist Hospital in Des Moines. The incident remains under investigation. The Iowa State Patrol is being assisted in its investigation, by the Calhoun County Attorney’s Office.
