Man from Columbia arrested on the way to the FIFA World Cup is arrested in Fremont County

(Sidney, IA) – A man on his way to see the FIFA World Cup soccer event in Kansas City, was arrested Saturday following a multi-mile pursuit. The Fremont County Sheriff’s Office reports 33-year old Nestor Morantes Segura, of Bogata, Columbia, was arrested on a serious misdemeanor charge of Eluding, after a Fremont County Sheriff’s Office K9 Unit tried to initiate a traffic enforcement stop on a vehicle that was speeding 90 mph in a 70 mph zone on Interstate 29 southbound, at around 1:25-a.m., Saturday.

Segura

When deputies attempted to initiate a traffic stop, the driver—later identified as Nestor Segura, a Colombian citizen visiting the United States for the FIFA World Cup—failed to yield and continued driving at a high rate of speed. The vehicle continued to elude law enforcement for about 10 miles. The pursuit concluded successfully after deputies deployed a stop stick tire-deflation device, forcing the vehicle to stop. Segura was taken into custody without further incident.

Upon questioning, Segura stated to deputies that he was unable to hear the emergency siren and mistakenly believed that motorists are not required to pull over if only the emergency lights are visible. He was transported to the Fremont County Jail, and booked-in on charges relating to excessive speeding and eluding law enforcement. Following his processing, Segura posted a $1,000 cash bond and was released from custody, allowing him to “travel down to Kansas City just in time to witness the Colombian National Team secure a 1-0 victory over Ghana, successfully advancing his home country to the World Cup Round of 16,” according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Larson

The Fremont County Sheriff’s Office reports also, a man from Imogene was arrested Saturday on an assault charge. 63-year-old Everett Bart Larson was charged with Domestic Abuse Assault. He was was arrested at his home and released the following day after posting a $300 bond.
