On Tuesday Tom Moore defeated Democrat Tripp Narup by a count of 8,140 to 3,757. Moore has a background in education actually being a history teacher and it was one of his inspirations for throwing his name into the ring of representatives.
Moore spent a good time of his 11 years as a representative working on the education of the people he served and credits his experience and the trust he built with people over that past 11 years on his win saying “They know they have a voice in me.” Moore said he doesn’t have an agenda and plans to go to the state senate to be there to support and represent his constitutes.
Moore said he plans on doing the best he can when it comes to representing al 36,000 people in his county. He as well will try to push for a better wage for teachers believing they deserve a good wage. Teacher wages in Iowa vary depending on the area you teach in, but the average pay is somewhere from around $48,000 to around $65,000 annually.
Education, healthcare, and protection of private property are the main topics Moore plans on fighting for in the state senate. A big topic for Moore and many of Iowa’s government is the cancer crisis; Iowa is one of the leading states in the US when it comes to cancer rates and many members of the government are fighting to combat the causes of these cancer rates.
Eminent Domain is a big problem across the US and Iowa particularly when it comes to the Carbon Capture Pipeline, where pipelines would be put under Iowa farmland to to collect carbon dioxide from sources like ethanol, fertilizer, and power and put that collected carbon dioxide into geological storage.
