Third District Congressman Zach Nunn, a Republican, and Democratic challenger Sarah Trone Garriott met in K-C-C-I T-V studios in Des Moines last (Tuesday) night for their only debate before the November election. Nunn criticized Trone Garriott for votes she’s taken on transgender issues while serving in the Iowa Senate.
Turek, the Democrat running for Iowa’s U-S Senate seat, is running an ad in which Turek says he opposes “males competing in female sports.” Trone Garriott says in her votes on transgender issues, she has been standing up for the voices of parents who want to make things safe and fair for their kids.
Trone Garriott criticized Nunn for having U-S Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth headline a campaign fundraiser this summer — and Trone Garriott said if she’s elected, she’d join a bipartisan push to remove Hegseth from his post.
Nunn said after opposing resolutions to end the war, he voted last month to withdraw President Trump’s authority to continue the war because conditions had changed.
Both candidates say Iran should never be allowed to have a nuclear weapon. The two also sparred over the release of the Epstein files. Trone Garriott accused Nunn of dragging his feet before voting last November to release the documents. Nunn says he opposed earlier release plans because the names of Epstein’s victims would have been made public.
