(Atlantic, IA – 1:09-p.m., 5/9/26) – The YL-37 Vietnam Era Sikorsky helicopter owned and flown by Nick Turner, that was to have made a refueling stop this morning in Atlantic, was canceled due to mechanical issues.
Turner told KJAN “We pulled the helicopter out [after noticing there was an] issue with one of [the] tail rotor blades that we did not see on [the] pre-flight [inspection]. Unfortunately, I’m gonna have to replace the blade, which means I can’t fly the helicopter until I get that fixed.’
Turner said also, the “Goods news is I got spare blades [that] just take a little time [to install]. Kind of bummed today was gonna be a pretty special day, but we’re gonna have to reconvene at a later date.”
Turner told us he felt bad for not being able to appear as hoped, but of course, in that situation, flying is not safe. We’ll provide an update on when the vintage war bird will make an appearance in the area, as soon as we have that information in-hand.
