The state Ag Department is giving 405-thousand dollars in cost-share funding to six Soil and Water Conservation Districts to help improve public lakes.
The funding will go to the districts so they can work with farmers and landowners to build terraces, water and sediment control basins, grassed waterways and cover crops. The goal is to help reduce soil erosion, slow and filter runoff, and keep nutrients and sediment from reaching the lakes. Lake Icaria in Adams County is receiving $91,350, Three Mile Lake in Adair and Union Counties gets $90,000, Twelve Mile Lake in Adair and Union Counties will see $102,750, West Lake in Clarke County gets $34,271, Badger Creek Lake in Madison and Dallas Counties will receive $32,294 and Lake Miami in the Monroe County nabs $54,600.
