Special Atlantic School Board meeting to take place Thursday (6/18)

(Atlantic, IA) – A Special Meeting of the Atlantic Community School District’s Board of Education will take place 6-p.m. Thursday, June 18th, in the High School Media Center.

During the meeting, the Board will take action on the following:

  • Approval to proceed with the Design Development Phase of the facilities/building project, based on the Schematic Design review and recommended value engineering strategies.
  • Approval to support an adjusted project funding strategy up to a total project amount not to exceed $26-million, pending future Board approval of the final scope and Guaranteed Maximum Price.

During the Board’s regular meeting June 10th, Travis Squires of Piper Sandler presented Board members with financial options to address the overage for the district’s expansion projects at Washington Elementary, Schuler Elementary, Atlantic Middle School, and Atlantic High School.

The primary funding source is the voter-approved GO Bond proceeds, supplemented by SAVE revenues and investment earnings. The financing plan is structured around the previously communicated debt service levy associated with the bond referendum.
