The Iowa Department of Corrections is providing more information on a medical incident at the Newton prison.
The update says the problem happened Wednesday when the fumes from a chemical adhesive used by a third-party contractor during routine work on the roof caused staff and prisoners to get sick. The Department says nine prison staff members and ten prisoners individuals underwent medical evaluations have been cleared. The D-O-C and the Department of Administrative Services say the prison is safe to resume normal operations.
