Republican National Committee Chairman Joe Gruters (GROOT-ers) says the Iowa Republican Party’s 2026 Caucuses will again be first-in-the-nation — and Gruters says that’s a big contrast with Democrats.
Republicans in Iowa held their first presidential caucuses in 1980. The Iowa Democratic Party’s Caucuses had been the kick-off event in presidential campaigns since 1976, but national Democrat made South Carolina the lead-off state in 2024. Gruters says Republicans believe Iowa was the right state to begin the G-O-P’s 2024 campaign — and it’s where the next G-O-P candidates for president will be tested.
Gruters, who says the G-O-P has a deep bench of potential candidates in 2028, suggests President Trump will have a big influence on the outcome of the next presidential election.
Gruters was in Iowa this week to campaign with Iowa Republicans who are on the ballot in this year’s election. He visited the Iowa State Fair yesterday (Thursday).
