(Red Oak, IA) – A woman from Red Oak was cited following a collision that resulted in injuries this (Thursday) morning, in Red Oak. According to Red Oak Police, the accident at the intersection of U.S. Highway 34 and 8th Street occurred a little after 9:30-a.m.
Authorities say 96-year-old Carolyn Joanne Glassinger, of Red Oak, was driving a 1992 Buick Century, and had stopped on 8th Street facing north at the intersection with Highway 34. The woman told officers she looked in both directions, but did not see a westbound SUV driven by 76-year-old Ray Franklin Guffey, of Stanton. When she proceeded into the intersection, her car was hit on the front passenger side by the SUV. .
Police say Glassinger was taken by Red Oak EMS to the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital for treatment of suspected minor injuries. Guffey declined transport to the hospital. Both vehicles sustained severe damage and were towed from the scene.
Police cited Carolyn Glassinger for failure to obey a stop sign and yield the right of way.
