Page County man sentenced to 2 years in prison following Domestic Assault-Strangulation conviction

CLARINDA, IOWA, April 20, 2026: The Page County Attorney’s Office announced today (Monday, April 20th), that on Friday, April 17, 2026, 36-year-old Nicholas Ivan Maher was sentenced by District Court Judge Margaret Reyes to two years of incarceration, with all but seven days suspended, a fine of $855.00, court costs/surcharges, and two years of probation. As part of his sentence, Maher must obtain a substance abuse assessment, follow any recommendations made after the assessment, and complete the Iowa Domestic Abuse Program.

Maher was convicted of one count of Domestic Abuse Assault by Strangulation, an aggravated misdemeanor, by a Page County Jury on February 25, 2026.

This case was investigated by the Shenandoah Police Department and prosecuted by the Page County Attorney’s Office.
