If you drive on Interstate 35/80 between the Southwest Mixmaster and Iowa 141 you need to be aware of overnight road closures that may slow down your trip, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s Grimes Construction office.
Our construction crew needs to reconfigure the northbound I-35/eastbound I-80 lanes of traffic by shifting the travel lanes. The following closures are planned to implement the new traffic shift:
Wednesday, Nov. 11, and Thursday, Nov. 12
- Full closure of northbound I-35/80 between Southwest Mixmaster and Iowa 141 Interchange from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m.
- Prep work to layout markings for traffic shift
Friday, Nov. 13
- Full closure on northbound I-35/80 between the Southwest Mixmaster and the Iowa 141 Interchange from 7 p.m. to 10 a.m.
- Complete traffic shift
- Backup closure scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 14, 7 p.m. to 10 a.m.
Drivers should follow the marked detour. It sends drivers east on I-235 to Valley West Drive (Exit 1B), NW 100th Street, and NW Urbandale Drive to reach eastbound I-80/northbound I-35.
The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey the posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
