(Mount Ayr, IA) – Officials with the Ringgold County Sheriff’s Office today (Friday, July 24th), report a man from Atlantic who was reported missing by the Atlantic Police Department, and who was last seen near Mount Ayr on July 16th, was found deceased Wednesday, July 22nd, after a search was conducted by multiple agencies. Authorities say 39-year-old Mark Francis was working construction in Mt. Ayr. The Ringgold County Sheriff’s Office viewed video of the man from the Casey’s Store in Mt. Ayr, where he was seen walking east along Highway 2.
Investigators with the Ringgold County Sheriff’s Office confirm there is no on-going threat, and the incident is believed to be isolated. There were no signs of foul play. Authorities say their preliminary investigation shows a possible heat-related incident or medical episode likely played a role in Francis’ death. Information was still be gathered with regard to the circumstances surrounding his death. An autopsy was requested, with investigators awaiting the results of the autopsy.
The Sheriff’s Office extends its deepest sympathy to the family of Mark Francis. The family has requested privacy at this time, and no further details will be released.
