Cleaning up Iowa water, growing food for human consumption and forbidding vaccine mandates were major themes at last (Wednesday) night’s Make American Healthy Again rally in suburban Des Moines. U-S Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Junior, the leader of the MAHA (MAH-HAH) movement, was the keynote speaker.
Kennedy has been a vocal critic of glyphosate (GLY-foh-sayt), a widely used farm chemical.
Republican candidate for governor Zach Lahn (like “LANE”) was the first candidate endorsed by the MAHA Political Action Committee this year. The crowd chanted Lahn’s name as he took the stage.
Lahn says addressing Iowa’s water quality and the state’s cancer crisis and promoting healthy food in school lunches are all pro-life issues.
The MAHA PAC has endorsed a dozen other candidates around the country, including Joe Mitchell, the Republican running in Iowa’s second congressional district. Mitchell told the crowd his 93-year-old grandmother died in 2022, two weeks after getting a COVID shot — and he blames the doctor who led the National Institutes of Health during the pandemic.
A small group gathered outside in the parking efforts to protest efforts to get rid of vaccine mandates and pointed to the 40 cases of measles that have been confirmed in Iowa so far this year – four times as many as last year.
