For many years Iowa’s rural population has been predominately republican, but the republican approval rate has has dropped a bit this year. Republicans rely heavily of the rural populations vote, and are looking to boost their approval in that area.
Iowa’s race for senator is more than just a democrat or republican getting voted in; it could mean the majority in the senate and given that President Donald Trump is a Republican the party is looking to keep their majority in the senate.
Currently the battle for senate has no clear or precise winner of the majority, but it will be harder for the democrats to take control. Democrats need to keep a hold of all current seats and flip 4 seats from republican to democrat in order to get majority. Republicans just need to stay where they are at currently is they want to keep majority, but have room to gain more seats.
